Never thought I was so thick lol. I do catering work at a national trust property normally, since I retired. I work 4 hours a week only as a volunteer. I am a trained chef. I have had to do 3 courses to return to work there. The food course I am used to. The return to work after covid was a new one of course, but the allergen course I am finding hard. I know much about this subject but I am only getting t 80/100 in the test. They are making things so hard these days to volunteer at the national trust. I fear alot of older people will give up. The trust will not survive without volunteers. What do you think ?

Gosh, how insulting can some people be. It's probably not the OP's decision as to what is served. They just need to be aware of allergens via e-learning and some of the questions in these courses can be so ambiguous.

I think a lot of older people will just study what they need to, to pass the Allergen Exam! If you are incapable of reading the literature then answering questions on it, then perhaps you would be better volunteering for a less challenging role at the National Trust? Allergen awareness is very important, could literally be a matter of life and death.
I agree with APG

Here we go
If getting 80 out of 100 causes you or any other volunteers to miss something and cause illness, or worse, death...how will you feel then?
"The trust will not survive without volunteers"

Would you rather the Trust or those with allergies survive?

"Here we go" If you don't like the answers why post?
Does this test follow an online learning course?

this post made me giggle a bit - i didnt realise handing people biscuits and cups of tea was "catering work" :)
not that i am denigrating the importance of a good biscuit, nor the people who hand them to you
Have you had an induction document similar to this NT Food and Beverage one from 2018?

At page 30 it speaks of the legal duty you have to follow their policies and to make sure the food and drink is safe to consume.

If someone knows much about allergens but is not reaching the level required by the NT, the knowledge they have is not enough.

They have legal obligation, to suggest the NT are purposefully making it difficult to volunteer is a bit absurd.
We agree. We have been NT members for decades and are disgusted with all this rubbish that has been going on lately. Without its volunteers, the NT will not survive.

Mwg14 at last a sensible answer. You know nothing of my background. How insulting some of you are. Bye for now .
Tamaris - don't let people on here put you off - most of them have been out of the workplace for years and just don't know how things work these days.
I'm assuming MWG14 hasn't got any allergies...life threatening ones.
Having a background in catering and knowledge of allergens is good, but it's still vital to be totally up to date if you have anything at all to do with food handling.
MWG14, "this rubbish" such as making sure that those involved with food and drink are aware of allergens, is a legal obligation.

Would you be happy with your subscriptions being used to pay for fines because the NT had not adhered to relevant food and drinks legislation?
tamari: Soy sauce made with little or no wheat

Gluten free soy sauce, good for those with a wheat allergy!
