My parents live in South Africa. My mum has been diagnosed with cancer. It seems to be growing fast. Her wish is to see her granddaughter - who lives in U.K. can’t travel here unless there are funds fot £1750 for lockdown hotel.

That is the real life implications of covid travel issues not holidays. So so sad.
I want to get to my mum and support my dad. Covid sucks.

Gosh, I'm so sorry. Covid has a lot to answer for.

Can you try to raise the money?
If you live in England, could your mum stay in an Amber list country such as Madagascar for ten days and then travel to the UK?

If so, she would not have been in SA within ten days of arriving in England and the stay in the hotel would not be required but subsequent tests would be needed.

Ty all - it is hard and we are not the only family going thru this (as ur answers show).

Covid does indeed have a lot to answer for!

Lady cg it’s not only the cost (id load my credit card gladly) it’s the time - by the time my mum has been 10 days on quarantine she’s need to be back in Sa for treatments. Corbyloon - ditto for the stop over in Madagascar and tbh I think a South African passport is gonna flag up at U.K. airport anyway

Sorry to grumble it’s just this covid thing is affecting so many LIVES.

Tho ur Madagascar theory has given me an idea as to if we (as a family) cld try meet up there? It’s worth looking into

Then again as pp has pointed out.... do we really want to risk passing on covid to immune compressed? Prob not!
Madagascar has a ban on travel from abroad.
my brother and sister in law stayed from Sep to March in NZ - eek

what's eek about that? No lockdown down under, they've been free to go to restaurants and rugby matches for more than a year now, apart from occasional brief local lockdowns. I could do that!
