I think you know that 'homophobia' means 'dislike of or prejudice against gay people', Sparkly. However, if you're happy enough to admit it, then more power to your elbow. I have a friend who is openly racist. he doesn't try to hide it, nor does he try to shove it down our throats, so he is tolerated.

Sparklykid, I think we just have to face the fact, however unpalatable some may find it, the TV has to reflect the world as it is today. Unfortunately, because soaps need to be inclusive, I think there is a disproportionate amount of LGBT's, same sex marriages etc.

As well as that there seems to be a disproportionate amount of criminality and death by accident or murder -I mean Emmerdale has seen 23 murders since its inception -a tiny village in the Dales!

In your defence, to find something 'unpalatable' is a far cry from being homophobic -we are all allowed our opinions!

We have two gay couples in our family, one of them a Married Couple. I went to their wedding. Lovely girls, both of them. They now have two children. It's a loving relationship, the children are loved and cared for. I am probably in your age group Sparkly Kid and as far as I am concerned, there is nothing to tolerate about the situation. So don't blame it on your age. What have you got to tolerate. How does it affect you?

I must admit the heavy-handed portrayal of minorities (and minority behaviours) in disproportion to their actual presence in society does put me off these shows - so I don't watch 'em.

I don't watch all the soaps, but it seems to me that they all seem to have the same sort of characters as in same sex marriages or relationships, people of colour, Asian people, nasty people, nice people, etc. I suppose they think that by doing this, they are covering all the bases.
