my above expires in end of April and usually Santander are good in that a new card is on its way but am wondering with the Covid excuse - should I try and contact them to REMIND them.

It will all be computerised so no need to. The new cards always come automatically.
No, it should arrive at the end of this month or the beginning of next month. Covid is no excuse for card renewal as it is an automated process.
I'd wait a bit. I know my Natwest cards always seem to come some time in the preceding month.

I received a new card this week, it arrived in plenty of time before the other one expired. You have 8 weeks yet, so nothing to worry about at this stage.
