I have been given an appointment for a Covid vaccination. I was given only the date and time. Is there anything I should do or not do prior to the appointment. My wife says that she has heard that we should not have any alcohol before the vaccination. Thanks folks.

remove the brain first as it is this that they are injecting the electronic tag into....believe this and you're really veering off the straight and narrow, percy.
Definitely no alcohol before or immediately afterwards.
There's absolutely nothing on the NHS website to suggest that any type of preparation is needed before the vaccination
https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/what-happens-at-your-appointment/
and nothing within the Gov.uk leaflet that relates to the situation after vaccination either
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-vaccination-what-to-expect-after-vaccination/what-to-expect-after-your-covid-19-vaccination

However other (hopefully reliable) sources suggest that, for the vaccine to be most effective, it's best to refrain from alcohol for a few days prior to vaccination and for up to two weeks afterwards. e.g. here: https://www.drinkaware.co.uk/professionals/press/drinkaware-issues-advice-on-alcohol-and-the-covid-19-vaccine

Thanks you. So there goes the nightcap for a couple of nights!
Chris that's drinkaware....they aren't precisely unbiased!
^^^ Really, Woofgang? I would have thought that a body funded by the firms which produce and sell booze is clearly displaying its independence when it issues advice to people to abstain from alcohol!
you'd think so wouldn't you.........
Percy glad You’ve got a date. What “group” are you in a pls? By this I mean that the priority list has been broken up into tiers. So for eg folk over 80 in care home and frontline workers are group 1, etc

My husb is group 4 ... keen to know which group they currently doing.... I’m guessing it’s still group 1 or 2
A sense of balance here.....a glass of wine or a whisky before your bed or evening meal on the day vaccination should dono harm from the point of side effects or reduced immune response.
My dad gets his second Covid jab tomorrow. He's had a little of everything in moderation, and no side effects yet!
As far as I know we are part way through group1 Eve.
Today the Matt Hancock said:

We've now vaccinated around one third of the over-80s in this country so we're making significant progress but there's still further expansion to go.
eve, it was said on the briefing today that everybody in groups 1 to 4 will have been offered a vaccine by feb 15th. here's the leaflet https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/948678/PHE_11920_Covid-19_why_do_I_have_to_wait_leaflet_v2.pdf
As a matter of interest, how long before you have the jag?
Corbs, who are you asking?
ty for the link woof.
and maydup for confirming that we're likely part way thru grp 1
That was to PERCY.
eve, from what you have said previously, are you sure your husband is in group 4? they way I read it (unless he's over 70 or currently been told to shield due to being ECV) then blood cancers come into group 6?
Hope he gets it soon
