We were always been told that brown bread is far better for you than white bread I've noticed myself gaining a lot of weight recently around my belly area this is probably due to eating around 6 rounds of white bread per day so I have now went on to wholemeal bread so I googled wholemeal bread yesterday and found it had 67 calories per slice whilst white bread had only 32 calories per slice

so which is the healthiest bread I need to lose weight I'm trying to stop also potatoes trying to stick to Rice but I absolutely hate brown rice.

Please, please not another thread on diets,the pundits will be out in droves.
It matters not a toss whether you eat white or brown bread, pumpjack, you are overweight because you are eating too much.....of everything.
What are you eating the bread with? Sandwiches, soups?

Can you replace it with something like wraps or pitta which are lower in carbs?

Do you drink alcohol? Pint drinkers tend to put on weight around the stomach area.
It's probably more important firstly to cut down on how much bread you're having, than worry about the calories per slice. I mention this because it's often the "easiest" step to weight loss, to not sacrifice the stuff you like but to try to have less of it, because that way you're still enjoying the food rather than feeling you have to abandon everything you enjoyed. Or at least, I think it's probably one of the easier steps.

As to the healthiest bread type, it may depend a lot on what you are looking for in "health". I'd say that one of the primary considerations should be to ensure that you have a high fibre content in the diet. That tends to mean:

(a) wholegrain;
(b) unrefined;
(c) relatively few ingredients.

If you reduce the calorie count elsewhere, taking the hit of an extra few calories from a slice of bread would be worth it if you're getting the fibre you need.

Finally, you may wish to check out either Ezekiel bread or sourdough bread.
If you are trying to lose weight then cut bread out of our diet & replace potatoes with sweet potatoes.
I kinda agree with Sqad as well. Eat less.

My sister is very fat. What she can eat in one sitting would last me all day.
Does it not depend on how thick the slices are?

You'd be better comparing the calories per 100g since the calories in a loaf will be the same whether it has twenty slices or fifteen.
I doubt it's the energy content that forms the basis of any health claims.
I'm a pundit *waves to sqad *...and I say eat no bread...or grains.
What is fed to animals to fatten them up? Grains...
Think about it. Some people can get away with bread, many don't.
umm why are wraps or pitta lower in carbs? surely weight for weight they are the same?
PJ I am amazed at the calorie difference you describe...I have a feeling that you haven't made a weight for weight comparison which is what counts!
My wife was diagnosed as diabetic and advised to review her diet. The first thing we did was to buy smaller plates and stop eating a cake after lunch and/or the evening meal. In less than a year, I had lost over 35lbs and my wife over 25. We were brought up during the war so were always encouraged to "clear our plates" so the secret is to put less on to start with. Basically you need to look at your eating habits.
PS Jim360....sourdough bread is said to be more digestible but again weight for weight it has the same calories as bread made with the same amount of the same kind of flour...indeed if it is more digestible potentially it may have more calories.
Woof...tbh, I don't know. I just read they were lower in carbs.

Myself....I don't eat enough bread to actually study it. The last time I ate bread was on Monday. I find bread too filling, and pasta but I can eat pitta and wraps. Maybe it is the weight.
Ummmm yes I am afraid its misleading...the only way they will be lower in carbs OR calories is if they weigh less.....gramme for gramme no difference at all.
I was surprised to see sourdough recommended as healthy for a similar reason, woofgang, but I assume that the ease of digestion means that you get more useful stuff out of it than an equivalent white loaf.

I don't think that calorie count should be the only concern when deciding what to eat, so presumably the benefits of sourdough outweigh any calorie costs.
I don't understand how you can eat so much after your weight loss surgery
What white bread has only 32 calories in a slice?
Nimble? I think it's called.
