Taking courses in surly dismissal, high-handedness and how to leave a phone off the hook.
I'd imagine there's still phone calls to make and prescriptions to be sent electronically to chemist shops JJ

still not doing much Bobbi - aye you're right Douglas - I find receptionists (not all of them) so rude I'm nearly afraid of them
Mine has rung me a few times over the summer months JJ and I'm positive I am not alone.
the ones at my doctors are lovely
JJ, you historically seem to be on a mission about doctors' receptionists. It's obvious that you think they are a bunch of nosey, gossipy people who you really don't like. Did one of them upset you at some time?

I think they are dealing with all the messages that people are able to send to query their medical treatment, ensuring that you get a phone discussion with a GP and making appointments for flu jabs etc.

Mamy and Woofgang - you are very lucky
Probably just as busy as ever! Also GP receptionists often have tasks besides "just" answering the 'phone - for eg chasing results, responding to GP requests etc

Actually I find them so unfriendly - but maybe I've been unlucky.
Sounds like you have been unlucky, the team at my surgery are lovely and chatty and helpful to.
The receptionists at our surgery couldn’t be more helpful, they’ve recently significantly helped me with a medication I usually take which has become unavailable.
But even before that, they’re a great bunch of ladies, not a grumpy one amongst them. They have a lot to put up with, with rude patients.
The receptionists at my gp are busier than ever as they are tying to sort out paperwork, the phones, sending out letters and emails to the various chemists, I met one of them recently (I live not so far from my gp surgery) and one of that receptionist told me they have never been as busy - if they ever thought they were busy in the past, they have truly been thrown in at the deep end now. I can not and never have found fault with them. Trying to ring the out of hours doctor service at the weekend, now, there was an experience with receptionists I would not like to go through again - I spent €30 phone credit being kept on hold and I think my BP was so raised following it, I felt I was gonna end up in A&E with hypertension
Our local ones are manning the doors, taking samples in, dishing sample bottles out and whatever else is needed from them.
The receptionist’s at my Doctor’s practice are very pleasant and helpful. However, they did use to have one who possibly should have been muzzled I was always relieved they had a Perspex screen at the reception area.
Perhaps its your attitude to them.
Receptionists are not responsible for patients getting into
the surgery they reason is to do with the coronavirus
Perhaps you have not heard of it because you are so busy
nitpicking.

Good luck ~ keep a distance and keep safe
Mine are holed up in the back room, Drinking copious amounts of tea refusing to answer urgent rapping on the surgery door.
Same as the doctor!! He must be hiding under the desk in case corona comes in!
I've yet to meet one friendly dr's receptionist. I thought being Surly was in the job description.
The receptionists in Kettering were good until MrG took ill. Then they were fantastic. Some came to his funeral and I thanked them in the eulogy.
When I moved the receptionists were fine and very helpful.
The one we have now is wonderful. If one of us needs an appointment she says she'll give us the two thirty one so when we see the doctor leaving his house in the next field after his lunch we can follow him down to save us hanging about....
I can only speak for the one here about what they are doing just now but I guess she's as busy and helpful as ever as we have no problem seeing the doctor with a same day appointment if needed.
The receptionists at my doctors are very pleasant and helpful. My son has had various problems since March and they have taken his calls, reported to the doctor or practitioners who have rung him back and suggested actions. Can't fault them.
Perhaps it's do as you would be done by, Piggynose?
