Thirty two days ago I had a Triple Bypass and an Aorta valve replaced and being 88 yrs old it set me back and today to top it off a sodden tooth filling came out leaving the tooth a little bit delicate But looking into getting it fixed is a another thing ,I have an appointment Monday ,well not an appointment as such I've got to be there at eight in the morning to see if he can find time to look at it But looking it up on the web I don't think he will touch it apart from a temporary filling without using the needle but that will do , I didn't know your teeth was so dangerous to your heart until today
I'm posting this today as its one of those low days you get after heart operations they said you get , It was that bl,,,,dy tooth that did it , and the wait till Monday to see what can be done
There I feel better already
All the best to you all

I'm glad that sharing has lightened your load a little, you have been through a lot.

Hope this is soon sorted out and you continue to feel better.
Ther are no significant risks to having dental work following heart surgery.
The problem is having dental work BEFORE heart surgery which ends to end done under antibiotics cover to combat a nasty disease called subacute bacterial endocarditis.
That's it in a nutshell.
I went to the dentist U.K. on tuesday had injection to numb tooth had filling the only thing they could not use was the fast drill ( only one day a week ) they used the slow drill which is a lot louder and more vibration

Sqad I looked it up and its because I'm full of blood thinning med that they don't like that's why I thought a temp filling would be used

August 2009, had an aortic valve replacement due to endocarditis, check up at Guys Valve Clinic annually since, no problems so far.
Good point bentaxle......which bloodthinner are you on?
Well done Ben on your recent cardiac surgery. Sometimes it’s small things that upset us and come and kick us in the ar** when we least expect it. Bloody tooth, :-)
All the very best with your recovery, I'm sure they'll opt for the best treatment on your dental dilemma. Take care!

sqad
aspirin
clopidogrel
furosemide
lansoparzole
Both Aspirin and Clopidogrel are blood thinners and should not pose a problem for minor dental work such as yours.
Do not stop taking the tablets.

Baldric
It took me two days to come round after the operation you see I was held prisoner in chains in a cellar

Some people would pay good money for that :-)
That made me laugh Baldric 20.10. Hope it cheered bentaxle up as well!
you get a dental appt
and so the best thing is then to read the internet on the wrong subjects - jesus h christ

yes baldric is correct you need dental treatment to avoid infection of your prostheses

you tell the dentist that

you DON'T say - oo I am on dat cloppy stuff - you heard dat? -

do NOT stop clop

he will have (heard)

the BJD / BDA / someone have given a 16 page advice on Rivarox and cloppy - and for conservative dentistry - the advice is you just close your eyes and do it
"attention should be paid to haemostasis" as if it shouldnt anyway

this will do
https://www.sdcep.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2015/09/SDCEP-Anticoagulants-Guidance.pdf

there is a dentist on AB he may contribute

big deal a few years ago - they now have had lots of practice

no I havent read it - it goes on and on - I know the stuff about rivarox as I am on it - - had an extraction and nothing happened

PP.

"yes baldric is correct you need dental treatment to avoid infection of your prostheses"

Correct me if I am wrong but Baldwin DIDNT say that,he said that he had to have a prosthesis BECAUSE of the infection.
Once you have the prosthesis then antibiotics for routine dental work is NOT required.

If I have mistaken your comments then please forgive me and comment further.

I have no advice to give, just wishing you a quick recovery and hope all goes well with your tooth.
^^How's the 'persona non grata' pup now??

(Excuse me bentaxle for interrupting your thread).
Mr. J2 had a triple bypass in 2000 and, with check-ups and tweaks to medication, is completely fine now; although 3 years ago he had to have a few days in hospital after arrythmia started up overnight (he didn't bother waking me, of course). He was warned by his doctor in France to take care of his teeth as there was a connection between teeth and heart. He hates dentists, however, so he doesn't go...... we did have words about this, but ..... :(

Hope your tooth is soon fixed and you'll cheer-up. :)
