I'm really worrying, Im 55 and have memory problems and have done for about 4 yrs, I'm under the mental health hospital because of it, I have completed visuospatial skills, language, Executive functioning skills, and Delayed memory tasks which all fell in the high average, whereas the tests for attention and immediate memory were extremely low. MRI was good, but NM brain perfusion imaging scan showed subtle cortical atrophy towards the convection, on the left ventricle has a slightly larger volume which they say is potentially important if your right handed, an early FTD is difficult to rule out. Please can somebody put this in layman's terms for me, whether it's good or bad please tell me. Xxx

As our AB relationship over the years has, shall we say hostile at times, I was going to ignore your post, but clearly you are struggling. In lay terms, the picture that you have given, both in symptoms and in investigations, would lead most people to concern at your relatively young age. Have you spoken to the doctor who referred you for the scan since you got the results. Squad might be able to help with understanding some of the medical “jargon” but I would ask for a consult with your doctor
Try to be calm and take some deep breaths. Worrying never helps anything.
Contact your medical health professional and ask for * layman's terms please*.
FTD is fronto-temporal degeneration - a technical jargon word
well dont for getting the report
it is clearly technical and not for the layman
You have described signs and symptoms which are worrying you and the scans show early signs
I am not sure what you want us to say
You should discuss this with your mental health team and your GP rather than walk ins like us

we are all getting ld and so if you scan us, abnormalities will begin to show up in all of us
the question is_ what do you do
I am sure in this case, the answer is wait and asee

The sub cortical atrophy means that there is some degeneration the brain structure and the FTD must indi ares the position in the brain that this problem is occurring.
The enlarged, left ventricle sounds more serious than it is, as the pressure inside will almost certainly be normal and o cause for concern..
As for the cause of your problem at this stage it is impossible to say as is your prognosis and I would agree with PP that it is a matter of waiting and seeing..
There are many causes for your medical and mental problems ea h with outcomes varying from 2to 4 years and the more favourable prognosis
of living for more than a decade.
I am not a Neurologist.
