Recently returned from hospital after hip replacement to realise that my usual trips to the loo during the night were going to cause considerable difficulty and discomfort. What to do as it was too late for anyone to visit a supplier? I settled on a plastic milk bottle taking great care there were no snags in the neck! Talking to others in the last few days I realise this is a widespread problem, someone even used a ceramic bread bin!

The joys of getting older.
Is this just about post op? If not I peed in a glass milk bottle once that I found in the kitchen of a friend at about 2am because there was a ginormous spider in their loo. I was only 14 .
After I broke my kneecap I had my leg in a titanium splint from ankle to groin, I had to learn to pass water stood up - a plastic jug came in useful.

Anything more that a wee was a bit more of an organised operation, :-)
Woofas- hope you have regular painkillers & you have to mobilise as much as possible so I would guess your surgical team would not be keen for you to use something to pee in to & likely would prefer you make those trips to the toilet!

The more you do the easier it gets- get well soon! X
When I had a hip replacement, I was got up in the afternoon after the operation to go to the toilet. We were encouraged to get out of bed and given a walking frame. After 3 nights, provided you could walk up and down stairs with crutches, you were sent home. After 2 days in the hospital, I was on paracetamol only and had no problem getting to the toilet at any time and we have stairs at home. Worst part was getting my leg back on the bed, but I had a sort of sling to help me. I also had a clip- on raised toilet seat. I was in such pain before the operation, afterwards seemed bearable. I feel really sorry for you woofas and wish you a speedy recovery.

You all took this a little too seriously - it was meant to be rather tongue in cheek!
Yes, I had a raised seat & frame on the loo Yes, they showed me how to get in & out of bed and handle stairs I came home late in the evening and realised that my slow & cumbersome clambering in & out of bed probably up to 4 times was going to seriously disturb my wife (patient though she is) Hence the search for a simple immediate solution.
I fully agree with the point someone makes; I did not realise how much pain I was in & how it impacted on my life. Still stiff, sore & bruised from the op but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
"was going to seriously disturb my wife"

Sorry I was under the impression that you were female. If you're male then any receptacle would be ideal, and using it laying down would be easier than if you were a female, for obvious reasons.
I always pee in ... good time.
(At my age I need to ensure that I do.)
The important thing is all this will be but a distant memory very soon..... Trust me most of the old men I nursed could have peed in a winebottle, very few still needed a wide neck....
