Hi, throat is insanely sore, swallowing feels like there are shards of glass there and my gland on right hand side of my neck is swollen.
Now I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about and I won’t bother the dr, but what an I take to reduce the pain and make it easier to swAllow?

I`d take paracetamol for the pain and alternate with ibuprofen for the swollen gland.
Ibuprofen and lots of hot drinks, this does seem to be going around at the moment. Water too xx
An NHS study recommends using paracetamol, with ibuprofen as an alternative:

It's worth remembering though that you can take both of those drugs together.
It's better to alternate them, than take them together.
To soothe the throat, sip warm milk sweetened with honey. I used to buy Chloramphenycol (not sure of the spelling) antiseptic throat-spray, which also helped. Had this a lot during teaching years.
An anaesthetic spray can give some good short term relief too.

Chloraseptic or Boots do their own.

Ok can’t take ibrofen so paracetamol it’s and will nip to the shops tomorrow for the rest
Thanks guys
I hope you feel better soon. A sore throat is horrible. The only saving grace is that it tends to be a precursor to a bug and passes off before the rest of the symptoms kick in.
Huge sympathies RR - cant add anything to the other replies for treatment - but a bad sore throat is just awful I know. I do hope you get better soon.
If you can take aspirin, gargling with soluble aspirin can really help.
You can take aspirin with paracetamol.

Felt a lot grottier this morning so took myself along to the Gp who saw me with a 10 minute wait only to be told I have tonsillitis!!
What has he /she prescribed, RR?
Thanks for a feedback....diagnosis sounds about right.
Presumably he/she has prescribed antibiotics?
Question Author
Yes antibiotics Clarithromycin and aspirin to gargle
Fine.
I know it not just a sore throat, RR, but when I have a sore throat, I pick a few sage leaves from the garden and chew them. Nasty taste but very relieving.

Day 3 of antibiotics and no better how long should I leave it before going back to the quack?
If it is no better by the weekend, then see your GP on Monday when a diagnosis of Glandular fever may have to be entertained.
