Found I had high cholesterol today but have no idea why I should as I eat only about 12 ozs of red meat a week and very little of anything else in the bad list. I also eat a lot of fruit and veg and no junk food, biscuits, cake or any stuff like that so How have I ended up with high (6) cholesterol??

Is it high? How high? Which are high LDL ( bad cholesterol) or HDL ( good cholesterol)?
You need cholesterol for a healthy life.
Many people have a "high cholesterol" and live on a "healthy diet."

A year or two back the GP asked me if I'd done anything about my high cholesterol level. Since my information had always been that it was lower than average, I asked, "What high cholesterol level ?" I was informed that the previous annual blood test showed a high reading. But what's the point if they hear concerning news and keep it to themselves ? Still have no idea what it is, so no, done nothing about it.

Thanks everyone
Squad my results were as follows
Serum Chol 6
Serum trig 0.9
Serum HDL 1.8
Serum LDL 3.8
Non HDL 4.2
The nurse did explain what they all meant but I can only remember my cholesterol was too high.
I am going to try and get it down ny halving the red meat I eat but as I already eat so little I doubt if it will work
Am I really in any danger as I excersise 6 days a week at rowing, cycling and weight training as I row competetively and regularly get my heart rate high.
Going by your lifestyle it is almost certainly genetics. If your parents lived to a ripe old age I wouldn't worry at all
Total cholesterol......a little high......not a big deal.
LDL ( bad cholesterol).....borderline......not a big deal
HDL (good cholesterol).......a little high.....not a big deal.

Do what your DR suggests.
On a personal note, i would not be worried about your results.
Theres little evidence that *dietry* cholesterol affects your blood cholesterol.
My sister eats pretty much the same as you and her cholesterol is sky high.
Last year my own cholesterol was above 6. Had a blood test recently and it had come down to 5:5.
Pretty strange since last blood test I had started eating eggs everyday plus red meat almost daily.

The body NEEDS cholesterol.
I know of people who have died in their 90'S with high cholesterol.
Never bothered them beforehand!!
