Mine is mild enough such that I usually only notice when somebody brings the subject up. Otherwise my brain filters it out.
Mines seems especially bad just now but it never goes away. It is frustrating.
Tinnitus can come with deafness and also with strong medication. It eventually pans out "eventually".
Quite by accident I discovered that having a fan on all night really helps to mask the tinnitus.

I’ve had tinnitus for many years. So has my sister and my brother. It never ever leaves me. I would like to experience silence but it eludes me.
Hi ab'ers, i have had tinnitus for 40+ years. There is a temporary method which involves flicking your index fingers to the base of your skull at the back of your head. The tinnitus increases then fades away. I get about 1/2 hour silence. Check out this youtube demo.
Give it a try, nothing to lose.
Another method i've yet to try is vapo rub just under your nose (not inside!) that's supposed to open sinuses. I don't think you necessarily need to have a cold although my tinnitus does worsen when I'm under the weather. Good luck.
Another thing... The demo is short, I do 50 flicks to the skull. Another demo on youtube uses spoons too!
