I have been on Escitalopram for roughly 3 years.
The side effects for me have been sleeping problems for 3 weeks, then very occasionally since.
Erectile dysfunction for about a month.

After 3 -4 weeks no side effects except the occasional sleepless night and that could be due to other things.

Hope you are coping well.
I would think that everyone is different, but my experience is that the side effects are fairly horrible for the first three to four weeks. After that they start to diminish, although I have to be honest and say they don't go away entirely. Keeping a healthy diet helps - plenty of fresh veg helps your digestion to overcome the side effects on your digestive system. Dry mouth is the side effect that seems to persist the most. Also, I found weight gain was a problem, so again, it pays to watch your diet. But I think the side effects are worth it, as the medication really helps, so try to persevere with it. Good luck.
I forgot to mention the nausea. That was also a bit nasty but that is one side effect that does go away entirely after the first three to four weeks on the medication. Don't give up. It'll get better.
What side effects are you having ?

Thank you everyone. Am having severe nausea whereby I haven’t eaten properly for a week and insomnia
Maybe they are not suitable for you ( don’t stop taking them until you talk to .gp .
I have been taking these pills since 2008. They have really worked for me and I can’t recall any bad side effects when I started them.
I’ve just been taken off them as they are harder to get hold of by the chemist, (brexit ?) so have been put on a high dose of Citalopram which seems to be doing its job.

Keep at it. X
