My friend is allergic to cats. He stays over at his girlfriend’s and his brother’s house frequently and each time wakes up unable to breathe and coughing. He takes 2 piriteze each time which don’t seem to be working. I am very worried about this. Is there any treatment his doctor could give him other than over the counter ones?

Your friend should try asking a doctor.

Yes I have said this to him. I just wondered if anyone else here had successfully managed to deal with the same issue.
Well,if antihistamines taken by mouth are ineffective, then you friend needs an inhaler..either Ventolin OR Becotide, both i think one can purchase over the counter.
Try your pharmacist.
Ask if he can be desensitised if it can be done for cat allergy. Keep cat out of bedroom
sqad you can buy ventolin online on one of these sites where you are asked questions and a pharmacist checks the questions before your order is despatched. Becotide is discontinued.
Thanks woofy...you keep telling me that becotide is discontinued and i keep forgetting..;-)
Thanks
He shouldn't sleep there end of. Ditch the girlfriend & the brother ;0)
Cats manage to get everywhere, including the girlfriends bed no doubt. Is run a mile.
*I'd*

I did suggest that but he seems more worried about offending people than surviving the night!
How would he offend them by saying he’s allergic to cats?
Hi Scarlett,
I have a brother who has two cats, he has copd & short term memory loss. It drives me to distraction he has cats because of his copd & the cat dander I go and clean, when he lets me. He cleans, but not in detail. I have asthma, I'll take an antihistamine but still feel itchy & chesty when I get home. Cats get in to every single room & on every surface. I have to concede that his cats are actually good for him 'emotionally' & make him happy, but not physically. His cats try to approach me but I consistently drive them away. I'm very aware of 'hair' ... can't stand it personally.
Have the cats put down. Simples!
Indeed - don't go there unless/until he gets rid of the cats and has the whole house fumigated. Disgusting creatures.
I have a friend with a cat , can only last a couple of hours in her house before I have to leave, thats with taking a piriteze, I also have use inhaler as have COPD.

Cloverjo- he would have to tell his gf that he doesn’t wanna stay over at hers and of course that would be a massive rejection in her eyes.
