Still on about the chairs!

https://www.dropbox.com/s/m91b262eqibiazv/chair.JPG?dl=0

Big chairs, can’t move any longer a) old age, b) chairs sunk into a groove in the carpet made by the big ring on which it sits.

If I got a couple of squares of plywood and attached the rings to the ply, do you think they’d slide on the carpet?

Or, any other ideas for easy shifting of the chairs (for cleaning etc).

I have four plastic slider gadgets from Lakeland or Betterware though I expect you can buy them elsewhere. They are shallow dishes that you put the legs of chairs into and then push or pull across the carpet. May help?
Sorry forgot to add they aren't kept on the legs permanently you just slide under whenever you need to move the chair.

Dunnitall - they might, but then you’d have to stop the rings from operating - we never use them as ‘swivel’ chairs, it was just how they came.
No legs to put them under.

Yes put something under, maybe plywood, to get it to slide. The slippier the material the better.
Can you lock the swivel ?
Question Author
No, no locks - Italian-made, so not the cleverest quality.
Hi Bain, is removing the ring possible? .. then attaching castors in the normal place.
I think the ply would work if you glued/screwed these underneath it so they slid on the carpet. They work really well. Get the biggest ones you can and if the ply is thick enough, choose ones that have a screwhole in the middle....you might need 5 per chair, 4 around where the circumference of the ring is, only on the other side from the chair IYSWIM, and gthen one in the centre. Woof. Ptfe, that’s the stuff. Couple of sheets of it would do (and cost more than the chairs).

I shall investigate...

bill you don't need sheets of it, the ply sheet with the knobby things on would work.
i am still in favour of the getting a cleaner/lowering your standards idea :)

We would need a cleaner before we had a cleaner. Tricky.
