This week the AZED is not a crossword puzzle, with clues in the normal manner. Instead you have to insert a word into the passage, which when broken up makes sense
For example
23d It's said an emperor chose his horse, foul!
The answer is RACONS (beacons - ie nothing to do with the "clue"), but if you insert it after the "O" of foul, it reads " It's said an emperor chose his horse foR A CONSul. (Caligula of course!)
Another example
10 As craftsmen they are trained in tally, well qualified (9)
Stick the word "heartsore" after the T of tally and you get
"As craftsmen they are trained in tHE ART SO REally well qualified.

so on this basis......

31 After diagnosis of this a demise is unlikely (6)
Letters I have are NO _ RDE

Googling I found someone asking this question, and I have learned that the split comes after the E in demise and that the word demise is still in the new answer. Something like .....After diagnosis of this a deNO_R DEmise is unlikely. Apparently it is an obscure medical term!

Just one letter needed to finish the puzzle and I can't get it!

Thanks for your help!
