Hi I’ve been told that I need laparoscopic surgery for hernia. Has anyone got any positive or negative advice as I don’t know whether to go through with it. Many thanks.

You have had the professional advice...........yopu need laparoscopic surgery.
I assume that you are looking for personal experiences.

Clearly this is from the Internet, I have no personal experience.

I’ve been told you have difficulty in swallowing for about 6 weeks and I have a phobia of choking and I have anxiety attacks sometimes when eating that I can’t swallow and I’m going to choke. I’m stressing and just need a bit of reassurance from people who have had it done. I understand it involves part of the stomach being wrapped round the oesophagus.
Ahhhhhhhhh! sorry....

You mean Nissen's Fundoplication for a hiatal hernia.

Sorry....again i have no personal experience.
yeah I was gonna say:
for this sort of advice - go to a doctor for chrissakes
and not ask walk ins such as myself - I mean would you buy insurance from me or a second hand car ?

yeah have it ....
oh that
yeah it works well
and is the operation of first choice
go for it

Thank you, I appreciate your answers.
About 15 years ago, I had a Nissen's Fundoplication for a weak sphincter at the top of the stomach, leading to severe reflux.

A complete success. I no longer have any reflux.

If you want to know more, please ask.

Good luck.

Such procedures are performed regularly where I work and depending on the skill of the surgeon generally takes 75-90 minutes, is fairly straightforward and recurrence is pretty rare, in my experiences.
In fact, I can’t recall any patient having the need to return in the last 15 years.
Hope that is of assistance to you.

Thank you for the reassurance, I was panicking, Someone told me they had it done and wished they hadn’t. The negative stays in my mind.
No problem, let us know how you get on post surgery.
It's fine, don't worry. Just feels like you've done a rake of sit ups.
