Whenever you're around. i have just noticed in the letter I got from the hospital that I need a 'faecal elastase'. I don't like the sound of that one little bit and am afraid to google it. Can you enlighten me?

Do you mean a faecal elastase test?
Question Author
Probably. I just quote from the letter.
It's a test on random poo samples looking for an enzyme. It's an indicator for lots of things including chronic pancreatic disease, diabetes, chronic irritable bowel disease, and even gallstones.
Googling it helps, as it is described as a ‘non-invasive’ test, which at worst will involve you donating a stool sample.

'chronic pancreatic disease' is what I have been diagnosed with. Is this cancerous? I'm not too comfortable with having things shoved up my bottom.
They don't normally go in to collect a stool sample - you deliver it in the usual way jack.
Just back from my club Jack.
Faecal elastase has been explained to you by a couple of posters.

You did ask: people with chronic pancreatitis are at greater risk for cancer of the pancreas, but that doesn't mean that all patients with chronic pancreatic disease will develop cancer.......they wont.
Jack.....please remind me....have you had an abdominal C-T or MRI scan ?
Question Author
I remember having an MRI scan 9 years ago.
mmm! OK.
