Yes lots of people - it is called tinnitus and has various causes - it is usually nothing to worry about - but can also be a symptom of some nasty diseases such as menieres.

It is worthwhile consulting your doctor - if it is

  1. Distressing - for most people it is an annoyance, but in severe cases can even lead to suicide.

  2. Pulsatile - If it follows a heartbeat pattern then it can be a symptom of very high blood pressure (and other things) and needs to be checked by your GP

  3. Unilateral - If it is only ringing in one ear - then it is probably nothing - but worth checking with your GP to make sure that it is nothing out of the ordinary.

Most tinnitus is nothing to worry about - but check with your GP if you have any concerns

I've had Tinnitus for many years. There are many forms but I constantly hear a high pitched noise. It never goes away but it gets louder when I'm tired, for some reason. I've never had treatment as I've always beleived there was nothing that could be done.
Usually it is something that you have to learn to live with - as part of my job I sometimes get asked about tinnitus maskers (like a hearing aid that makes sounds to stop the tinnitus) but I am not convinced that they really work.
