I was going to have a boiled egg for breakfast however just been to the fridge and it says 3/11 on them. Would they be ok 1 week out of date or should I just abandon the idea?

Just fill a bowl with cold water and place your eggs in the bowl. If they sink to the bottom and lay flat on their sides, they're very fresh. If they're a few weeks old but still good to eat, they'll stand on one end at the bottom of the bowl. If they float to the surface, they're no longer fresh enough to eat.
Put the egg in a bowl of water in order to find out whether it's fresh or not:

I’m of the opinion why put items in the fridge if they’re not sold out of a fridge/chiller freezer when you buy them. Just my opinion.
I've used eggs a week or more out of date and not kept in the fridge.
Yours will be fine, I'm sure. But if you want to check, use the advice above.
as others have said..there is a HUGE safety allowance time wise on food... if it looks ok ..smells ok..then it will be ok ..in my experience.. would put the willies up you the times I have eaten ancient yoghurts etc !
I never really check the date on eggs but I do check them in water as previously described if I need fresher eggs for baking.
I have used eggs that have been stored in a fridge and three weeks out of date. No problem.

Hans.
Our chickens don't lay them with dates on, as previously said, just do the water bowl thing if you're ever in any doubt. I eat all sorts of out of date stuff and I never get a gippy tum :)
I've just eaten 4 eggs that were 3 weeks out of date no problem.

Great thanks for your advice everyone I did the water test and they were totally fine. I had a lovely boiled egg for breakfast, really enjoyed it.
Fair point malagabob. But then I've never understood why fridge manufacturers provide egg holders in door storage compartments.
There was a whole article on egg storage just a few days ago....the door of a fridge is the WORST place to store them (too much variation in temperature).....the main body of the fridge is the best place (if you intend to keep the eggs for some time) or in a cool place if using them within a few days of purchase.
It's a fact that they keep longer if kept at a constant cool temperature...hence, not in a bowl on the kitchen counter.
Eggs in the supermarkets are already 3 weeks old when you buy them so I would not have thought another week or 2 would make a bit of difference!
A while back I read that eggs are stored at room temperature in shops because they are moved off the shelves so quickly. Whereas at home they may not be used straightaway.
I believe egg holders in fridges are for storing hard-boiled eggs.
If an egg is really bad, you can smell it through the shell. If it is Really Really bad, you can smell it as soon as you open the cupboard or fridge. I reckon - no pong, no problem.
