Yesterday’s thread got me thinking and actually kept me awake for most of last night, fuelling thoughts and feelings that I thought were behind me.
So I thought I would give you an insight into my life for those that think it’s easy to lose weight – I mean sure you just control what you put in your mouth don’t you?
On January 31st 2017 I weighed 31 stone I now weigh under 20 stone!
It gets to the point where you weigh so much that there is no point in dieting as anything you can lose is just a drop in the ocean and that is the point I got too.
It took all my effort to get out of bed in the morning shower and drive to work. But I did work full time and tried to have a social life but it got to the point where I hated going out in public. If I dared step outside of the office the stares that I got and comments made to my face was horrendous. Now some may think that it should have been the boot I needed to diet – but it didn’t because I would reach for another cake and tell myself that I can eat what I want its others that have the problem – how is me being fat affecting them – what business of theirs that I am fat. You know it was nothing to do with them and they are just mean small people that should have been raised with better manners.
Then it gets to the point that you can’t stop eating, you need the joy that food gives you because you have so little joy in your life. You pretend to be happy and jolly and the life and soul so that people cannot see what you really feel inside how vulnerable you really are.
Now I have been called many names over the years most are not printable, yes I come across as blunt and harsh but you need to think about what you are saying to a person. There has been some horrid things written about me and I am sure that following this there will be some more.
But you know what? Bring it on I can change and am changing, the people that think its ok to ‘diss’ a fat person for eating a lot in a restaurant will always be narrow minded and bitter people.
So I am asking you not to judge a fat person you don’t know the whole reason for them being as they are. Just be grateful that you are not one of them!

you're right about the Achilles Heel Anne.

Islay, am not liking the thought of the operations, but then again, needs must.

You have the unconditional love and support of your husband and friends, both old and new.
just like to add my own congratulations Islay, both on the weight loss and the bravery in talking about it so openly.
Let's hope you get that well deserved horse one of these days Islay xx

Thank you, for sharing that insight with us. I want to hear about your horse, eventually.
Well done on your weightloss. I was wondering - what happens when you get to your goal weight? Will it be possible to eat more food to remain at a constant weight or is there some kind of adjustment that has to be performed?

237sj, eventually my stomach will give slightly to allow me to eat a bit more and hopefully stabalise my weight loss.
Thanks. I was just wondering. I think my cousin's husband had weightloss surgery many years ago but I have never asked him about it.
It's only by reading and hearing how others have made their journeys through the trials of life do we gain some understanding - if it makes just one person think next time they start to comment without thought, then it's brilliant.

You have shown more courage and staying power to get where you now are than I ever could, I think you're amazing.

You'll reach your goal,of that I'm sure. ❤️
If there could be a "thread of the year" this would be it.
Thank you so much for your honesty, it's very courageous of you to share something so personal. May the rest of your journey be so successful. X
Congratulations on your life style change Islay. My OH, a large framed person has had a love hate relationship with food her whole life. Many years ago we stopped talking diets and instead talked lifestyle. As I always said, the label in the clothes doesn't matter,it's how you look and feel. My other half now eats less and exercises more, as I have retired I do all the cooking. We have a folder of healthy tasty recipes and on a Sunday, the next weeks menu is agreed in advance. Good luck for your future.
A very honest post, and youve done amazingly well Islay xx
Mr Smow is very overweight. He was when I met him but not to the extent that he is now. It definitely affects him when he does things like DIY etc and now on holiday he won’t take his top off. He has never ever mentioned his weight and Ive broached the subject once of twice saying I’m worried for his health but he just ignores it. Like you say, maybe it’s because he knows it’s not an overnight solution, but I really don’t know what else I can do if he keeps burying his head in the sand.
Well done Islay. You can be very proud! Hope you can reach your goal and dreams.xx
Congratulations - both on your weight loss journey and your willingness to share it with us. We all travel different paths through life and I hope you have found the one that suits you now. Best wishes for the future x
I admire you for your guts, I also congat you for your weight loss and your determination, I said on yesterdays post I would not insult, & this I will stick to, whatever someone wants to eat that's up to them, you have done it for yourself and that what matters, it's your Body, your life & only you can do it & you have, I will not give you any more Complements only look forward to the person you want to look like, & that person is you.
Islay, you have come a long way and I am so proud you managed to say what you needed to. Well done on the weight loss though!
My late Mum (Nungate) sadly was obese (if she was here she’d kill me for saying it) sorry ma she hated it but she didn’t eat unhealthily, she ate better than me, me the diabetic. But she had mobility and various health issues that led to her weight problems and I know it broke her heart she was the way she was. But it made me realise you can’t judge a person for their weight as there could be any reason behind why they are the size they are. Give her her dues though she tried to move as much as she could. It just wasn’t to be.
But well done and keep up the good work! People just open mouth before engaging brain, and don’t realise how their words affect those they utter them to.
