Sounds like cystitis. Owch ! You may need a Pee test and antibiotics. See your GP and drink loads and loads of water to wash out the bacteria. Poor thing, I sympathize.

Can the nurse prescribe for getting rid of an infection ?
Have to say I've never had the option, nurse or GP.

I hate to waste the GP's time so that is why I sometimes go to the nurse.

Thanks Samuraisan, it is very uncomfortable.
I think that's what I've got. Been like this for weeks now. Best get to the GP, I think.
GP take urine sample or go a bit early and ask for pot.

Thanks all, I hate to make a fuss but its a bit awkward at work having to keep moving or actually sit on a cardigan to soften my chair!!
You are not going to " waste the doc's time " that's what they are there for. You must get rid of it. Otherwise it can harm your kidneys etc. Don't let another day go without seeing a dr. It's awful !!
They should be able to advise you on the phone if a nurse will do, there are nurse practitioners at my doctors who can treat all kinds of minor ailments and they should be able to check, given your symptoms if a nurse can help or you should be seeing a doctor.

Our practice has a phone back scheme where a GP or nurse calls you and, if appropriate, they then arrange the right appointment for you, if yours has anything like that?

I have quite a few water infections and try to drink lots of water and cranberry juice to help as well. Due to the high sugar, cranberry juice can be diluted with water too.
I thought that this was a female complaint. I'm starting to get worried because I have had pain around the kidney area for weeks now, and it's worse when I stand. I have to sit down after five minutes at the most.
Just don't be put off get a urine test so they know what bacteria it is ( most probably e.coli ) and get your antibiotics. It cam be a nightmare.
If it is cystitis, drink loads of water and lemon barley water. My GP recommended the LBW and it worked for me.
Important to get it checked, male or female, I had an awful one a few months ago, was e coli, and was difficult to shift and took two lots of antibiotics, so the earlier the better really.

If an infection is suspected they may also send the sample off to the lab to check which antibiotics should work on it.
To take away sting/pain, put half a tea spoon of bicarbonate of soda in a glass of water every hour. It definitely works, well it did for me. Please get to doctor though as it can affect kidneys if left too long. That applies to you Jackdaw too.
Thank you, Patsy. Will make an appointment tomorrow, though God knows when I'll get one.
Put half teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda in glass of water. It will get rid of sting/pain. Take every hour until feels better. It worked for me but please, do see your doctor asap as infection can affect your kidneys. That goes for you too Jackdaw.
Sorry about double post! I wasn't sure the first one had gone.
Cystitis can effect either gender JD. Bit it's more difficult to get to the male bladder than the female (longer journey) and infection is less likely to arrive at the entrance, so it's much less common.
I would call your GP first thing in the morning and make an appointment ..........could be cystitis or maybe kidney stones.....small enough to pass and that's why it hurts. GP
will know and best of luck, Islay
What worries me is that I have the constant urge to go, but when I do, pass very little, What I do pass is very dark in colour and sometimes looks like blood.
