Ive been with my boyfriend a year now and in the first 4 months he confessed to having a gambling problem which put him in a financial crisis with job. He learned his lesson and got a job in construction that were not paying him the full amount they owed him for 3 months which made him keep asking me to lent him money for his rent. Since then he has found another job but another when he had to move into a new flat. he carried a small deposit of £300 in cash in his jacket pocket and it was too late to transfer the money into the landlords account. He claimed the money had been taken out of his jacket on the way to the flat and so he asked me for £200 to replace it. As of recently he told me he had his credit card cloned and £300 taken out which he is able to get back and needed £200 for the rent. Given his history of gambling, would you say this guy either has the worst luck ever or hes lying to me about his money?

Just refuse to give him money...point blank. That's exactly what he's giving you, stories and excuses... I can't say leave him because my dad was a good guy but it did bring a lot of heartbreak with it.

he's gambling and you are paying for his bets but deep down i think you already knew that
My brothers were all gamblers - one in particular was truly addicted. They never had any money. Also one of my nephews is very bad re gambling. Get out of that relationship as it is a very hard habit to kick. You sound like a nice person - get another boyfriend asap.
& Celine ... you won't be the only person he's owing to!
Out - asap.......
Celine, make the break.
If he is telling you lies, that should be enough.
The gambling and borrowing is also a very bad sign.
Combined, it offers you a very poor future with him.
If you think anything of yourself at all, run!
Having been raised with a weak gambling father, who put this before providing for his kids & our Mother, just cut your losses and run. It will be more lies, excuses and mind games from this person.
My dad did recover and paid back every person he borrowed money off.
My advice wouldn't be to end things with him if you don't want to. You may be the person who can help him to help himself.. but unless he wants to help himself things won't change. Just make your own boundaries when it comes to lending or giving him money. Don't let him put things in your name and challenge his lies. That's what I'd do.
It's very hard to break away from someone if you're not ready. My boyfriend suffers from depression and when he's down all my friends say I should leave him but I don't want to because I love him. It's up to you whether you stay or not, just don't lose yourself in the process.
