I had an area of breast tissue removed on Wednesday after a diagnosis of breast cancer. The wound is clean and relatively painless but I can feel fluid around the site and I imagine can even hear it sloshing about! I can't face a trip back to the hospital or sitting in the out of hours surgery (I'm due back to see my consultant in 10 days) Any advice would be appreciated x

No big deal.

It is fluid that has developed around the excised "lump" known as a seroma.

It could well be advantageous to you as it maintains the contour of your breast...;-)

Providing it doesn't cause any pain it should need no further treatment and will settle.

However if it gets larger, it may need draining........unlikely.

Monitor the situation for the next week.

I suspected as much myself, there's very little discomfort, no redness etc. Thank you Sqad, much appreciated x
As an aside - you have probably heard about these people but if you haven`t they are a good source of support (you`ll probably need to sign up with a username and password) http://www.breastcancercare.org.uk/breast-cancer-services/ask-us-your-questions/helpline?utm_source=Homepage&;%3Butm_medium=Promo&%3Butm_campaign=helpline_opening

Thanks for the link 237SJ, I'll definitely check it out xx
April do you have a breast care nurse? It's quite normal to have a seroma after surgery but at our hospital patients often ring the breast nurse to pop in and have it drained in between appointments xx
