Hi Abers, my friend in Cyprus was about to have an operation for an aneurism on her chest this week, but they,ve said she has fluid on her lungs, so op is cancelled for now.
How do they get rid of fluid on the lungs? Cheers folks

Many many thanks Buenchico, very helpful as always. Will read in a mo x
It depends upon the cause of the fluid and where it is sited.

If it is in the pleura, then it may well have to be drained surgically and may be due to many things..e.g pneumonia.

If it is in the alveoli ( distant part of the lungs) then it could be treated with diuretics.

So it all depends on the site of the fluid.

I thought it may be just a case of sticking a needle in your side and draining off any fluid. Knew it wouldnt, wouldnt be that easy.
pusskin.......it may well be that easy, but the fluid will have to be investigated to find the cause.

As a really 1000-1 outsider, the fluid may well be the aneurysm "leaking."
Question Author
Sqad, aneurism leaking, mmm didnt think of that. She has waited 5 yrs or more for anuerism to get bigger before they can operate, and now its grown much larger. Much more complicated than I ever imagined.
