What Is This Pain In The Back Of My Leg And Should I Be Worried?

I'm a 60 year old male with type 2 diabetes and a couple of other medical problems. The regular medication I'm on is as follows:-

Metformin 500mg - TWO tablets twice a day
Ramipril 5mg - ONE capsule taken daily
Ramipril 2.5mg - ONE capsule taken daily
Atorvastatin 10mg - ONE tablet taken daily
Epilim 500mg - ONE tablet three times a day

About four weeks ago I started getting a pain down the back of my left leg, running all the way down from my buttock to my ankle. At first I thought I may have pulled a muscle and that it might clear up on its own but when I still had it after two weeks, I decided to make an appointment to see my GP. By this time, the pain had got so bad it had started to give me sleepless nights and wondered if it might be a trapped nerve. I'd just like to add I don't do any strenuous excercise and have not suffered any injuries.

My GP agreed it sounded like a trapped nerve (although he didn't actually examine me) and prescribed Naproxen 500mg tablets and told me to take one tablet twice a day and come back and see him in four weeks time. That was two weeks ago. At first the Naproxen seemed to be working great, completely alleviating the pain in my leg. However, after three days, although the overall pain is still greatly reduced, I find I now have an intense throbbing pain at the back of my leg, about mid-way down between my buttock and knee. I'm wondering whether I should grin and bear it and wait the remaining two weeks to see my GP or would it be advisable to see him asap.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As long as your leg is not swollen...........grin and bear it......monitor the situation.

Thank you boxtops and Sqad, for your swift replies. I'm relieved to say there's no swelling that I can see, but will keep you posted should the situation change.

Thanks again.

As per your age the pain which you are getting is an general one so try to do some exercise like yoga and all that would be effective.
