My son is 7 and a type 1 diabetic. He for quite some time suffered at school and at home with a lack of focus which doing school work/ little jobs around the house. it's the schoolwork that worries me. sometimes he sits and he has no interruptions or distractions but he just goes off into his own little world and stares at the distance until you 'wake' him up and get him back in the room. is this normal 7yr old behaviour or is it diabetes related at all? when he has his blood sugar tested it is usually fine. what can i do to stop this bad habit he has got into ?...

Interesting question.
It may well be that your son is suffering from a type of epilepsy which is commoner in diabetic children.

Ask your GP if referral to a neurologist would be prudent.

Garrett how does that relate in any way at all to the OP's question?

I've just seen these answers and I was thinking the same woofgang. Thankyou squad. I hadn't heard of this but I am going to look into it as it can be quite a problem, god knows how long he sits in the class like this before anyone /notices does anything. :( is there a medical name I can look up? It seems the longer we live with diabetes the more conditions I hear about that he may be susceptible to. :(
