I have heard that if you take your prescription with you to Cyprus you can get your glasses more cheaply than here. Is this true? We are going to Paphos on Sunday and have just had eye tests done , so wondered whether it was worth taking our prescriptions with us?

You can get your prescription made up anywhere you like - but personally, I'd be very reluctant to get the specs made up abroad, if I was coming home a few days later. Any new specs I have often have to be adjusted, and it's a heck of a trip to go back to Cyprus to get any adjustments sorted - and local opticians would be less willing to undertake adjustments if you haven't bought from them.
Correct, if you walk along the coast road from Paphos harbour you should see a couple of Opticians there. Only problem is that its a long way to go if anything needs a repair.

I've done it and the spectacles were good and cheaper. Np problem for me because I'm always in and out of Cyprus.
Always in and out of Cyprus??....that's what he tells us.....☺

If they are a really good price, Grange I would give it a try....
My local optician is very good at sorting problems even with specs not bought from him....x
I guess it also depends on how complex your prescriptions are - if it's a nice straightforward prescription, perhaps it would be OK. Mine are varifocals and each eye is different, so I like to have my optician close to hand!
Most opticians will repair glasses and one near me just ask to make a subscription to their charity box on the counter,
Repair's one thing, trt - asking them to adjust lenses because the overseas company's not got it quite right would be something else, though.
I got some spectacles when I was in France using my prescription from either Specsavers or Vision Express (can't remember which one). I was there for 2 weeks and ordered them within a couple of days and had them before the end of the first week. The French optician was lovely and seemed genuinely pleased to have the opportunity to practice her English and make up the specs.

do you mind!!!
My SIL has a place in Tala just north of Paphos. Very handy if we need a break
Give yourself time to get the glasses made up so that when you collect them, and try them on, there is still time before you leave to get any alterations made. I once had glasses made up in a foreign country and posted to me, but they had got one lens wrong.
I haven`t bought glasses in the UK for eons. I get them in the Far East. They`re so brilliant in Hong Kong that I took some in and told them to copy the shape of the lens and they did (in 24 hours and on the premises). In Singapore, I left my glasses overnight with them while they put new lenses in and when I enquired what would happen if there was a delay (I was leaving that night) the guy said "In Singapore, no such thing as delay". The price difference is getting less and less though - Hong Kong is getting expensive and the UK is getting cheaper.
I did it once and never again.!! PLease do not waste your money. They didnt charge less and it was a nightmare until I got another pair from Specsave.
If they are a good price & saving money for you I wouldn't hesitate. Should anything happen to them when you get home tell the optician that you had to buy them abroad because you needed them whilst on holiday & couldn't manage without.
