Just having a nose on FB and someone I went to school with has posted pictures of her Dad's recent wedding day, where she was a bridesmaid.
I was flicking through them and thinking "there's lots of pictures of him and the best man". But.... it turns out that was the person he was MARRYING!!

I just don't get it.

He's obviously done a great job as a dad for his daughter to be so happy for him.

Apart from other reasons others have said, it doesn't mean to say that he didn't have a good relationship with your friend's mother, relationships come in all guises, he could have been happy to marry and have a family, many gay men do, especially in the past with attitudes not being quite so open-minded.

One of my exes came out while we were still in a relationship. We ended up brilliant friends, lived and worked together for years after, sometimes often his boyfriends staying, in fact a couple of them worked at the same place as us too. He is now happily married to a man and I'm really happy for him :)

Eve, that's really nice - thanks for sharing :)
My first ever boyfriend is now happily 'married' to a man, although I was only 13 at the time, so don't hold myself responsible in any way, shape or form. lol
I think I'd be a bit 'surprised' if my Dad suddenly went bleach blonde and got a tango tan, shacking up with his boyfriend who I'd known nothing about, but I wouldn't be shocked or traumatised or anything negative, I'd be more interested than anything and would I be a bridesmaid at a big fat gay wedding? You bet I would- I'd just be worried about all the cross dressers looking better than me.
I think its very wrong for gay people to hide their sexuality . get married and have children. I would be very upset if either of my parents did this.
Think the problem would not be whether or not the parent was homosexual but the problem of a life of lies.
Question Author
I think that's the problem I'd have, the life of lies.
Saying that, maybe the wife knew about his likeness of men all along. Who knows.
It would be awful of me to post a picture on here, as much as I want to, but if you could see the wedding snap, you would understand why I was *so* shocked!

My Dad is very much a man's man. He's not homophobic, but he makes no secret of the fact he doesn't 'like' it. Actually, maybe he is homophobic?? Anyway, my point is, I could never in my wildest dreams imagine him ever, EVER doing something like this.

I suppose we might all have to get used to calling the girl in this situation
"The Groomsmaid". But perhaps we'd better think up a new word.
Question Author
Thanks for that, ooodles. I'm sure you've based that assumption on your many, many years as a member here on AB.
Oh, wait...

atalanta, I never even thought of that. I just saw her and her sisters all dressed in bridesmaids dresses, following him up the aisle.

This reminds me of an old post on here but I can't find it. A girl said her friend's mum was now a lesbian and she got slated for being shocked.

Personally, I feel sorry for Jessica Simpson. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2224242/Joe-Simpson-steps-flamboyant-new-look-amid-rumours-affair-male-model-21.html
If my father came out as gay then he would no longer be my father

Ditto my son
TBH, if you were my father or my son JL, I'd come out just for the hell of it.
On a family note Joeluke, your mother must be damned proud of you :/
Ditto my mother
joeleke, let's just hope they make the right decision when they choose their sexuality then.
perhaps they'd disown you if they could see the crap you post.
I would die of shame if I had a child who had opinions like yours.
I think joeluke doth protest too much...

Do you wanna an mannly hug JL?
you need to get your mankini on first, Chuck!
Oh perlease. I haven't coughed for 3 hours, that one just gave me a coughing fit.
