Spend too much time on here!
There are lots of possible causes such as ageing, stress, family history and various medical conditions. Could be just a one-off. If it hasn't been raised before, you would probably be asked to return a week later for another check. Wondering why you had it checked 3 times in such a short time?

In over 90% of cases of hypertension, the causes is unknown and these cases are described as Essential Hypertension. It is often associated with overweight, lifestyle, diabetes....etc...etc.....Google them.

In a very small %of patients with hypertension there is a demonstrable cause......uncommon, but it is there.

I am not and never have been a fan of "White Coat Syndrome"....I don't say that it doesn't exist, but in my opinion, it is overdiagnosed.

If you have a high BP then you need to see your GP
cybil, some medications cause high readings, are you on any?
From what I've been reading on the subject, your GP is supposed to take TWO readings. One at the beginning of your visit and one at the end. I have never had this since my diagnosis, around 18 mths ago!
I've also never been given a cause- apart from 'just age'.....
