Swollen feet

a friend of mine had to take a day off sick today because her feet started swelling up yesterday and today they're so big she can't fit in to any shoes or sandals. It's obviously due to the heat as most of us suffer to some extent.
She says it feels like they're going to burst and would do anything it to go down. She's done cold foot baths and is constantly sitting with her feet raised up.

I've suggested Dandylion tea and Echinacea as it's diruretic but she doesn't like the taste. Anyone got any suggestions?

I'm afraid I don't have a remedy but my dad gets this when he goes on holiday (to hot places!), it's right about the legs needing to be raised but make sure they are above head level i.e. lay on the floor with feet on sofa.
she should be drinking loads of water - and i mean loads, at least 4 litres a day.  Sounds really uncomfortable though poor love, send her our love :o) Green tea would be good, and doesn't taste too bad.

if she cuts down on her salt intake it may help.  My mum has the same problem and her doc' said she should reduce salt in her food.

First of all she needs to sit down and figure out how many simple carbs a day she is eating.  S-Carbs make the body retain fluid.  If you want to travel without your legs and feet swelling lay off the carbs for several days before you travel and don't eat them while you are gone.

Swollen legs can also be a sign of liver problems and she should go have a liver enzyme test.
