Impaired glucose tolerance

I have visited the nurse at my GP's surgery today and been told that I have impaired glucose tolerance. She has explained what I should and shouldn't eat and given me some booklets to read. She has told me to avoid red and orange fruits such as oranges, apricots, strawberries, red grapes, red apples etc but I have read the booklets she gave me and they say nothing about avoiding ANY fresh fruits, in fact there are photos of red fruits in there! I'm confused. Can anyone give me any advice before I attend my next appointment in a fortnight. Many thanks in advance

Thanks that's the kind of booklet I have been given. It even gives examples of what to eat in that one such as plums and satsumas!
There is a lot of sugar in some fruits, but I would check it with her - give her a ring.

Should surely then be included in any leaflet designed for those diagnosed with Impaired Tolerance or is a waste of money printing the things.

thanks pastafreak. According to that list bananas have a higher sugar content than strawberries but she told me bananas were fine. Think I'll follow the booklets I have got and see how I go. Thanks everyone
j kelly , I hope you get sorted soon. I have just looked at Pasta's link and i am surprised at just how much sugar is in certain fruit. Blimey...
Don,t get obsessed with what foods contain sugar and can I have vegetables and fruit which contains sugar.

You are NOT w a diabetic and like many people, some with symptoms some symptomless wo have impaired glucose tolerance.

My advice.....throw away your diet sheets.

1) Take more exercise...swimming or walking daily.

2) Eat the Sam foods as you ate before, but less of them

3) Try and lose some weight.

Do the above and your blood glucose levels may come down to normal...but don' t lead a miserable life by examining every morsel of food for sugar.
It's not totally relevant-but I've been eating fairly low carb for a while-and berries are considered tohave the lowest sugar content of all fruit. I'm not surprised about bananas-because of their sugar content,both diabetics and those with low blood sugar will rely on them for a quick burst of energy.
Sqad your advice is exactly as the leaflets say, the nurse has muddied the waters here...why, not sure.
