Hi there been really anxious the last few days about travelling 20 miles to see my brother, I didnt sleep at all last night I took 5mg at 3pm and another 5mg at 8pm to help me relax but I feel it has made things worse for me. And I took 5mg the night before last

Now I am not going to see him at all and feeling really bad after not having slept all night I dont feel I could face the journey.

But still feeling really edgy I dont know whether I should take another valium I honestly feel it makes things worse for me and not better

gordie....you certainly do have your problems.

In direct answer to your question...........it is unlikely that the valium has anything to do with your problems.....ALTHOUGH......in a very few reported cases, valium does indeed have the opposite effect and instead of sedating or relaxing effects, it has the opposite....excitability and nervousness.

I wouldn't take another valium as you have contemplated.
all i can say is be careful DO NOT USE FOR LONGER THAN 4 WEEKS AND ONLY AS AS PRESCRIBED.

i speak from experience

the withdrawal is hell and you build tolerance quickly with diazepam

if it is making things worst dont take it,it can cause depression and mood swings.
gordie1,
When I was anxious and took diazepam, it seemed to just confirm how anxious I was.
gordie, go back to your doc if your medication's not helping. I too speak from experience - I was a long-term prescription valium user a hundred years ago, it took me a very long time to be free of them. You don't want to become reliant on them.
in answr to the op....yes. diazepam doesn't seem to have worked for you so far, so i would cease taking it. as others have said, you don't want to become dependent on any substance, so you should always ask if things are addictive (lots of substances given for mental health issues are to different levels). go back to your gp and ask for something different. if your anxiety is life interfering and distressing for you, he/she should be referring you to your local mental health service where you can get a proper assessment of your problems and given options for treatment/support. i wish you well.
Dear gordie1,
I was wondering how you got on today?

my brother came to see me. I had terrible anxiety all last night and never slept at all there was no way I could travel
Thanks for the update gordie - do go to the docs then, it sounds as if life is not good for you at the moment.
gordie1,
Try going to your GP as suggested it may help. Though when after about 15 years of anxiety I mentioned it to my current GP all he said was that I was the last person he thought would have anxiety. He really did not offer much help.
I found EFT by chance and thought it was rubbish when doing it but as I said it just went.
Try doing the EFT. As I said you need to fire up the Neuro pathways that are firing when you are anxious that way they can be erased by the EFT. What I did not know was that if the anxiety does not disappear try tapping longer at difference different points. It maybe worth starting on something that is not as anxiety producing before tackling the bigger issues. As you (I hope) start to realise it works the more confident you will feel with it.
I would not recommend something if I did not believe in it and I truly hope it works for you.
If you can afford it please try and find a practitioner as I believe that would be the best approach. I would recommend someone that also uses NLP and hypnotherapy as they have different techniques that they can bring to your therapy.
You have been in my thoughts all day and I wish you well. I know the hell you have to live with for now! I never thought I would be rid of my anxiety and if it had not been for EFT I do not think I would be talking to you now.
Much love,
Gavin
I may be wrong to give this advice - but I would go for herbal remedies anyday. I find Kalms work for me, and I use Rescue Remedy, I can take both all through the night when I cant sleep and it stops me worrying. I wouldn't go to the doctor at all. Also try Yoga classes and meditation for during the day, to sit quiet and calmly and deep breath and focus your mind on breathing - it really helps.
I was prescribed Diazepam for anxiety attacks but it didn't agree with me. I've been on Mirtazapine for a few years now which seems to help (not cure) the problem.....................
