I had a nasty run in with a chiropodist a few weeks ago resulting in a very painful and infected toe. (Thought I'd never walk again!). I wondered if there was such a thing on the market as a suitable, safe numbing spray that I could use to be able to treat the toe/nail painlessly. Most of the sprays I have looked at are for tattooing, waxing and injections.

Have you taken it to the GP?

what happened at the chiropodist, then?
Go to your GP who will refer you to their NHS chiropodist.I did this about a month ago and was really impressed and no charge, having paid for years
You can adequately treat an ingrowing toenail with frequent soaks in warm water and if it becomes red and painful, an antibiotic cream will do the trick.

Now....."numbing sprays"......these are ineffective in inflammatory conditions due to bacteria and just wouldn't help. Yes, there are anaesthetic sprays on the market, but for your situation they would be of little or no use for pain relief.

I disagree with my to colleagues above, as if it is not of long standing or acutely inflamed and painful despite my advice...then a GP or Chiropodist would have little more to offer at that stage.
I've found that if I get an ingrowning toenail you need to evacuate the pus then a dab of Sudocrem and keep it covered with a bit of gauze and a plaster, the soreness soon goes.
