Can anyone give me a surefire remedy for the itching and swelling, after being bitten by various mosquitos?

yup. Antihistamine tablets
Boots own insect bite cream, the one in the small BLUE tube.
ice cold water for immediate affect (not long lasting). As told to me buy another fabulous ABer.
Hydrocortizone cream.
Placing one's own saliva on the bite will give relief... kinda difficult to do on the hard to reach ones.  Use clear nail polish on bites that itch but haven't been scratched raw to the point of bleeding. Additionally, as soon as possible after being bit, wet a common, plain aspirin tablet with a little water and rub gently on the bite.  To prevent the bites in the first place, wet a clothes dryer sheet (any brand) with just a little water and rub it on exposed skin... work's like a charm...
Lavender oil.
It is one of the few essential oils you can safely put directly onto the skin.
Tea tree soothes bites and itchy skin. Witch hazel does too, but if you've scratched the top off a bite it can sting, whereas tea tree doesn't.
Itchy areas need  coldness for relief and one sure way to get this is to apply peppermint oil. It makes the spot cold for ages, and they clear up quickly. Don't make the mistake of smearing it all over the good skin as well as it will make you feel really cold....Also if you had a homeopathic remedy for bites on hand all the time, this takes the effects of a bite away immediately.
