Haven't had one since I was a child, but this started last week and it's not got two heads which don't look ready to burst yet. It's sore and itching and driving me crazy. I've been applying a hot flannel frequently but no sign nof improvement. Fo top it all it's my birthday in two days' time and I'm supposed to be partying. There's no chance of wearing make-up over the thing. Has anyone got any miracle cures they can recommend? The local chemist was no help - she said to go to the doctor, but I haven't had time for that and it's not that bad, just annoying.

duh! Contrary to what I just said, it has got two heads.
Well you could have a fancy dress party bambi, maybe you could go as a pirate, you know wear an eye patch !
Arse cream and Brolene. Brolene for the infection and arse cream to reduce it. Sounds daft but it works.

That's one idea!
Liver and onions for tea then with a bottle of red wine and a big bar of chocolate
Question Author
I hate to ask, but what exactly do you mean by arse cream?
LOL.
Question Author
Dotty, I'd go with the red wine and chocolate, although I hate liver, but do they help get rid of a stye or only numb the pain?
Anusol or preparation H. The stuff that shrinks piles.
an old wives tale...rub it with a gold wedding ring, as told by an old wife , my gran.
Question Author
Thanks, Mojo-Jo-Jo, that's sort of what I thought. I shall have to buy the German version. I shall also try the wedding ring. If all else fails I'll have to go with Tony's suggestion.
After the warm poultice, use a magnifying mirror to see if it is around an eyelash root - if so pluck (carefully) that lash and it may release pressure and more.

Mamyalynne - it's not, I've already looked for that as I remember that solution being used when I was young (pain!).
Shame that.
I'd go to a different chemist and ask for chloramphenicol eye-drops- a low dose antibiotic available over the counter.

Thanks Prudie. I think I shall send the OH as if they see the stye I'll get turned away and told to see the doctor! They're like that over here.
the gold has anti bacterial properties, i use it on mine when i get one (which is quite often!)
Best on reflection to ask for the ointment rather than drops. I feel for you, I'm far too vain to put up with a stye for long!
Prudie........good girl. you know it makes sense.

Thank you all. I shall go tomorrow and see what German equivalents I can find, and I hope the ****** thing responds.
