On Sunday morning at 4.30am my 4 year old son woke up and was violently sick only once. Later that morning he had diarrhoea only once and was fine for the remainder of the day. This morning (3 days later) he woke up at exactly the same time (4.30am) and was again violently sick only once. At approximately 8am he had violent diarrhoea. I'm puzzled because it doesn't seem consistent with symptoms of Norovirus.

My husband told me that 2 days ago my son sprayed himself in the face with water from the water butt. Could it be a bug from the water butt because I know they are hives of bacteria? But that doesn't explain the symptoms on Sunday.

I'm going to speak to a Doctor about it but I wanted to see if anyone on here has had a child with similar symptoms before. TIA

My 19 year old son had similar the other day, and a day later the bug struck me.

I promise you I have been nowhere near your water butt.

Lol!

It does seem to be a strange one though. He had Norovirus in March of this year (as did we) and it's definitely not the same.
The exact symptoms of norovirus vary with the person. My family had it and were all sick several times , but when I got it I was only sick once.
Very very unlikely to have anything to do with the water butt.
Unless your son still has symptoms I would not bother the doctor.
I agree entirely with Eddie.....no big deal at the moment.
why dont you put some bleach in your water butt to kill the germs doesnt take much.

Thanks, I decided against taking him to doc, as if it is a bug I wouldn't want to pass it on. Now I think it could be Rotavirus which he had once when he was 2 years old, in the same staggered way. His poop is very green and watery and regular. We're keeping his fluids up so I guess that's all we can do.
Could be cryptosporidium. I had very similar symptoms, went on for nearly 2 weeks on and off. Eventually sent a stool sample in to the doctor (they are only interested after 10 days) and that's what they came back with. You can catch it from infected water among other ways: http://www.hpa.org.uk...nsAZ/Cryptosporidium/
