Depends how much, but for quick short term weight loss it's hard to beat atkins. I don't advise doing it but if that's what you want to do then Atkins is very good in the first few weeks. How much do you want to lose? How heavy are you now? How tall? Combine strict atkins with a lot of exersise for 3 weeks and you should able to drop a fair bit. Otherwise it's amputation I'm afraid!

How about amputation??

But seriously, trying to loose weight quickly is never a good idea, it can be risky for your health, and will usually not be permanant. The simple, best way to loose weight is no rocket science, just hard work, cut out as much fatty/sugary food as possible, replace it with fruit and veg and good bulking/ roughage agents, like cereals and whole meal bread, then get plenty or regular, aerobic excersise, running, cycling, swimming, at a rate and distance that actually raises your heart rate, perhaps three times a week for at least 30 minutes. Drink lots of water, reduce alcohol intake, and do little things like taking the stairs instead of the lift, or getting off the bus a stop early every day and walking the rest. Sadly though, it will be a long process.

My answer should have said plenty OF regular exercise, not OR!

Well...I have started running (Loosehead gave me some good advice on exercise) and I am eating all the right low fat stuff...but I am impatient! and I know of some people who did weight watchers and lost 1/2 stone in a week (they were quite large though) I am only about 1 stone over weight for my height...will it be more of a slow process do you think?
I'm on a diet at the moment... my goal is to loose a stone by 12 Aug!!  Try to eat 1000 calories a day.  400 for lunch 400 for dinner and the other 200 is for snakes and breakfast.  Try to eat at least 3 types of fruit and veg a day and exercise for at least 30 mins, 3 times a week until you feel breathless and sweaty!!  Also, drink loads of water...try to drink at least a litre before 12 noon.  Be determined...you can do it!!

I think the more over weight you are the easier it is to lose the excess because the fat isn't doing anything.  If you're only a little overweight (probably a stone or under) then it'll take longer because the body kinda needs some of the fat.

The basci, eat less exercise more will probably work pretty well, TRy to swim rather than run because it uses every part of your body and I find it much easier to just go on auto pilot when I swim so it doesn't seem too much of a chore.

In your case it will be more arduous. Someone very over weight will get big losses initially but that will level out. Initial weight loss is mostly water so you come down to earth after a week or 2. The main source of energy is carbohydrate, this is stored all over the body as glycogen in water. When you start to diet the body uses this store and hence a lot of water is also passed in the early stages. Half a stone in the first week is common but after that to lose fat you need to lose no more than 2lb per week. You say you are a stone over weight for your height but are you over fat? The BMI is still used by medics but it is largely discredited, you don't want to lose weight you want to lose fat. I could go on.... and on!
Careful eating those snakes Butter, some are poisonous, I'd go for snacks if I where you!
ha ha... i know, i just re-read it and realised I had put snakes instead of snacks!!  Obviously having a blonde moment!! lol

stop eating

exercise like mad
