We were at the shops when my son saw the boy who mugged him several months ago. Turned round and he had gone. Went into another shop and he was at the next till being served! So I took a photo on my mobile.Followed him and he went to a bus stop. I just couldnt help myself - I said excuse me and he turned around. I asked him if he had mugged my son(why did I do that??) and he glared at me and said no! So I said well somebody just took your photo in that shop but if it wasnt you then youve nothing to be scared of have you. Then I walked off, shaking. Ive probably been really silly but he hurt my son and it was just a gut reaction. I called the police as I had a crime number and the policewoman said she would have done the same thing. but now my son is worried incase he sees this boy again that he might do something.Think Ive been an idiot.

Has the mugger been punished for his crime?
Question Author
No police hadnt known who he was, but I now have a photo of him on my fone!
You will probably find that the police will already know the lad, the way things seem to have changed since the summer riots, it's almost possible that you can rely on the local police to investigate further and make an effort to get the CPS to get the lad in court and make some kind of community order. But that's only a possibility, it's not certain they'll take it any further, but good on you for confronting him, I've done similar in the past and it ended the issue as far as the kids were concerned, most are merely bullies and cowards anyway.

He looked a thoroughly unpleasant boy, as shifty as hell looking

Thought son was ok but actually he wont come home anywhere on his own now and wont go to a lot of places that he used to. Its actually the second time he has seen the boy so he lives very local

Well he was under 16 so I would end up getting in trouble myself but I was sorely tempted!
Does your son go to school with him?

Im not sure what the police would do with that, taking a photo of him today doesn't prove he did anything.
Question Author
EB no he doesnt go to his school. The photo was to see if the police recognise him.
It's disgusting he's getting away wth it. I really feel for your son, and you. I'm sure I'd have wanted to punch his lights out.
I can understand why you did it, I would probably want to do the same myself. But I think approaching him might have been a bad idea. Suppose it cold work one of two ways though.
Question Author
I know, almost wish I hadnt, but he had hurt my son and was just standing there, smoking a fab, hoodie up, looking so bloody cocky.
I KNOW my Mum would have done the same if my brother (or me) had been attacked.
Question Author
Fag, not fab!
That was so brave of you. Well done. He's probably a cowardly little piece of poo and is now scared stiff about what's going to happen next. Chances are he picks on other kids all the time, so there isn't any reason why he should associate you with your son.

I would definitely have photographed the kid so I could show the police, I don't know if I'd have confronted him though as I can go from fairly calm to incandescent with rage in a split second when it concerns my kids, I may well have physically attacked him. :-/
Yeah my mum would have done the same
Or worse smow well done xx
