So for the past 2 months ive been waking up with my left hand asleep it happens.. like 3 times a week... its my whole hand so i dont think its carpel tunnel... and I wake up on my back when it happens so im not sleeping on it. Ive been having very mild pain that comes and goes on low on the left side rib cage.. Ive had a chest xray and abdomnal ct scan.. I have really bad health anxiety and have been to my doctors office so many times in the past month that he is starting to think im crazy.. so i really dont want to go to him because of this hand thing.. unless its serious.. I'm really worried though.. PLEASE HELP!

Hi have you not had heart scans? Eg echo or ECG? As this doesn't sound good with pain in the place where it is, I'd get them checks done first! But as to your hand my father had the same problem after he had a heart attack a few years ago, I now know he wears a splint on each hand and this stops it altogether, but I don't know what his problem is I don't know if it is carpal tunnel, maybe sqad will shed some light, I only know what I do from my father but he did complain of waking and his hands were alseep so they gave him splints to sleep in, (google that if you don't know what is) but I'd certainly go the doctors too,it's there job to find out what's wrong and mither them until they definitively tell you what is wrong!! Just before you go maybe write down all symptoms and how they feel,I know myself I go to the doctors and forget the symptoms and have to guess from memory but if you write them down it helps the doctors, hope this helps and isn't just babble :) and hope everything goes okay!! Al
Just a quick question...........is this "sleeping hand" painful?
FWIW for the last year or so, I've been waking up with something or other feeling 'asleep'. Used to be concerned but doesn't seem to have amounted to anything. I just put it down to either nerve or circulatory problems of some sort. (It's probably neither, truth be known.)

I just had a ecg.. doctor said my heart was fine.. ive had many blood tests xrays a brain mri a ct scan of my abdomen... they can't find anything wrong with me.. This all started when I started sleeping on the couch with my daughter.. I wake up on my back though so I know Im not sleeping on it.. It never falls asleep during the day unless i rest my head on it for a long period of time... Ive also been taking omega 3s and whenever I don't take them i notice my hand doesnt fall asleep at night.. I havent taking them in three days and have not woken up to my hand falling asleep.. and my hand does hurt after i get the feeling back in it... only for like 20 mins. though and then its fine... I don't think its carpel tunnel because its my whole hand that is numb..
Could be a problem with your neck and back such as arthritis and other back problems. I often wake up with dead hands because of osteo in the neck and nerves getting pinched. The fact that it started after you slept on the couch with your daughter makes me suspect that you have pulled your back or something similar. This could also cause pain in the lower ribs. I would be looking to see a physio or osteopath.
harley.....although not completely typical a diagnosis of carpal tunnel syndrome is indeed on the cards.

See your Doctor.
