I awoke at 3:30 in a cold sweat this morning because I heard a woman call my name, it wasn't my wife who was fast asleep beside me.
It kind of freaked me out as this has never happened to me before, it wasn't a voice I recognised, but it was crystal clear (I can still hear it now) and sounded 'urgent' if you know what I mean, as if to deliberatly waken me.
Has this happened to anyone else?

No ... Drink more : )
I occasionally talk in my sleep and it wakes me up!

I did drink more last night.
It is either your mind playing tricks on you (easily enough done if half asleep) or a spirit trying to get your attention. Take your pick.
And if LB did drink more last night OG, then it probably was the spirit :)
Spirits either way then... ;)

Ok spirits it is then.
I woke up the other night because my husband was stood by the side of the bed saying 'wake up, wake up' in rather urgent tone. I woke up to see him fast asleep beside me, I was rather unnerved and couldn't go back to sleep for ages. Also a few years ago I was walking down an alley between some shops and I clearly heard my Mum call my name. There was no one else around. It panicked me a bit and as soon as I got back home I phoned her to make sure she was OK, she was. That really freaked me out though because I heard it as clear as a bell.
oh yes, I got woken up by the phone the other morning but couldn't get to it in time to answer it. When I was fully awake I dialled 1471 to see who'd called... and nobody had. I'd obviously dreamt it.

That's what dreams are, I suppose. All sorts of things happen in them, but if it's something that might in real life make you wake up, then you wake up.
she could have called out in her sleep or you could have dreamed it?

i was positive my friend was calling me when i was staying over, and was worried i couldn't wake up to reply ... but she didn't!
jno, that sometimes happens to me when the phone wakes me, and no one has rung. Clear as a bell, pardon the pun. Also I have heard a voice which has woken me and of course no-one was there when I woke up. Scary.
I have that too - can be quite scary at times as you don't know if it's real or not. I've gotten up to answer the door bell before now, no one else in the house heard it and no-one was there.
All these instances are dreams that you suddenly wake up from, it happens to us all, nothing to worry about. It can seem very real.
Ive often thought I heard knocking on the front door in the middle of the night. I go down convinced its real and dreading at the same time as a call during the night often means somethings happened. Its never real though unless someone is knocking and running away, but it has happened on a number of occassions.
