I have 2 children, one if each. I have no desire to have anymore children nor does my partner. I want to be sterilised as I don't want to take contraception until I start the menopause! My partner will not (no compromise) have a vasectomy and is anti me getting sterilised due to the risks involved. I just wondered about people's experiences of either Sterilisation or the Coil. Thanks

I was sterilised 21 years ago. No problems at all. It's probably even quicker and simpler now than in 1990. Good luck.
I was using a coil when I conceived my second daughter so it isn't fool-proof but that was 22 years ago and as AdriSco says things should have improved since then.
My GP doesn't offer sterilization anymore.

How about the implant? I had it for over 3 years...no side effects and no periods.
i got sterilised 10 years ago, (omg was it that long), day job, bit painful for a couple of days but that's it
you've given birth twice, but he won't go for the snip?

are you sure you don't want to do it for him? :o)
Thanks for posting this question cybil2403 as I'm in the same predicament but have had the Mirena Coil in for 4 years. Not had any major problems at all with it as my periods have been very light if none existent. I would opt for this type of coil if suitable for you as it contains some hormone as well. I had the non hormonal coil fitted prior to the Mirena but my periods were unbearably heavy so wouldn't choose that one again.

I would opt for the Mirena if sterilization is out of the question but in my case the hormonal element of it is now disagreeing with me due to being in my late 40s so sterilization maybe my only choice.

Hope you get sorted and let us know how you get on.
take my advice... get a good library book! only joking xxx
I got sterilized nearly 9 nine years ago after having the desired number of zero (0) children. This did not hurt a bit and was in no pain at all and was back to normal the next day.

I would very strongly recommend getting sterilized as the other way is not foolproof. You may find a little surprise if you choose the other way.

I am not impressed at your partner. He should not be afraid of getting the snip and should not stop you getting "done" either.

Hope this helps.
I don't understand a man who won't take his partner into consideration, and have a vasectomy -some guys seem to be very afraid of it, of losing their virility. Female sterilisation is a bigger operation, or you carry on using artificial methods of contraception, none of which are foolproof. Why won't your bloke do it, what's his argument against it?
Tell him to get his butt (and other bits) down there and get it done! It's such a little thing (no pun intended) for a chap to get the snip. You've done your bit - now its his turn!
