Male osteoporosis?

Hi I have a friend who has been suffering with very severe back pain for several months..He is 61 yrs of age slightly overweight non-smoker and was fairly active ..he hurt his back and ever since has been unwell he has had x-rays etc but has recently been told he has osteoporosis.. but I am worried he is not eating ..has lost a lot of weight is in severe pain.. is this normal with his diagnosis ??

Osteoporosis of the spine is PAINLESS except if there is an associated fracture.

Loss of appetite.......loss of weight......back pain......in an individual of 61 years of age is sinister and the X-Rays of his spine need reviewing.
He may also be suffering from depression which causes loss of appetite. Pain and the realisation that one's body is becoming decrepit can be quite depressing.
