Hello I got sun burnt last sunday which is very nearly a week ago now.I burnt my face, tops of hands and tops of feet as wearing full body wet suit. Having sun burn has been as expected except my right foot, which is still painful and red. I have since burning cooled all sunburnt skin with cold compresses to slow/stop further burning, applied aftersun cream, and then sun cream if I go outside. My right foot however has shown no signs of improvement, it is very painful, swells up, restricts movement of toes, restricts movement and walking some of the time. It is not blistered just very red. Some times I can walk ok and then it feels like someone has dropped something on my foot and I have to hop around. At the moment as I have both feet up and my right feels very numb compared to the left, and makes me feel quite sick, it feels funny, as it's beyond the usual 3-7 days for sun burn to get better and the rest of my burns are better I don't know what to do, thanks.

Go to the Doctors immediately
It is more than likely that it is the end result of your sunburn, as if you have been walking on it all the week, then it is going to take longer to resolve than the less dependent parts..e.g face and back.

I would take Ibuprofen 600mgs in one go, rest the foot today on a settee or something and get back to us in the morning.
Forget advice from non professionals, get to your local doctor immediately-take it from someone who waited too long

Your advice is relevant and valued, but please, how do you know that some advice on AB is from "non professionals?"
Were there jellyfish in the area? Are you sure it isn`t something else? Something that could have bitten/stung you?
sorry sqad, but as its been ongoing I assumed we werent the first people she took advice from Mea culpa
I too wonder if you've been bitten? The swelling and pain doesn't quite equate to sunburn. Best have it checked out - won't do any harm to have someome look at it.
tommy......;-)........no big deal.

Woke up this morning after a disturbed night with the foot feeling funny, is looks better... paler, is still hurts a bit but looks better, I have been busy already today on my feet and it hasn't been too bad I am hopeful that it is now getting better. but I half expect the colour to return by the end of the day. Will see how it goes and if is continues to be a problem next week I might request brief medical help at my local practice.

I may have an additional injury (bite/sting) but there was no pain at the time and there is no visible bite or lump. But I am not ruling anything out.

Thanks for the help :)
Just to say, I had sunburn on my feet a long time ago and boy did it hurt and hurt for a long long time. Even a year later it could burn and sting but not as bad as at the original time. I can only think that this is one of the most tender parts of the skin and when badly burnt it will take an age to heal properly. As I say this is personal experience and I just wanted to say it may be similar for you. Please to hear it's a little better today though, give it time and keep it moistened with a soothing lotion when you can.
what_the thanks for the feedback.....it should settle now.
Make sure you look after the skin too as sun damage is not very attractive (as well as not being good for you). Probably easier to minimise lasting damage now rather than try and get rid later.

yep today has been a good foot day, yes a little painful but much better. It's even feels itchy now which is surely a good sign that things are drying up I will be appealing soon! thanks
