I wouldn't but perhaps they do these days - when my mother had it, she was in considerable pain, and had to stay in bed.
Noooooooooo I had pleurisy once. its very painful and I was very ill for weeks! I'm surprised that she is able to go to work!
No. Absolutely not until she is better.

she was ill all last week at work and finally went to a walk in centre today and was told that what she has. She is insisting she will be in work tomorrow !!
Definitely not . Stay home , keep warm , plenty fluids and plenty of rest.
I don't want to scare you but I was very ill when I had pleurisy and it turned into pneumonia and I ended up in hospital! I'm not saying this will happen to your friend but it is a very nasty infection and she should get plenty of rest and visit her doctor.

thanks for your answerd. I hopefully have convinced her to go and see her GP tomorrow and get a fit note, how long does it usually take to clear up ?
If she carries on as if nothing is wrong, there may be possible complications that could need hospitalisation.
Without complications, about two weeks max.
She should stay at home really. I had pleurisy which turned into pneumonia - I only took two days off work which is probably why my illness lasted five months. My lungs are knackered now. Every time I get a cold, I end up with a chest infection. Tell her to rest up and get rid of it.x
jasmin - what does her GP advise?
As long as her work is not labouring and is basically office work and as long as she doesn't have a temperature or coughing up phlegm, then if she takes an Ibuprofen to ease the chest pain, she should be fine to go to work.

Go to work and just monitor the situation, or if you want an excuse not to go to work...............then don't go.
