Hi,

Im am on a diet, and have found that sometimes the scales dont reflect what weight I have lost. How is it that there are time when I KNOW iI have lost weight, I can physically see Ive lost weight, but the scales say Im still the same weight?

Are you exercising?  Apparently muscle weighs more that fat...

This can be down to any number of things, for example:

Scales: standard bathroom scales are very inconsistant, even the better quality strain guage ones under read. Balance scales give the most accurate reading I weigh about a stone heavier on balance scales than on the scales in my Gym I can't explain it just something to do with the way no balance scales work.

Time of weighing: Always weigh youself at the same time preferably weekly.

Water: Weigh yourself before bed and then again in the morning I can be 3lbs lighter in the morning depending on vists to the loo over night!

Composition: Weight is generally considered irrelevant these days, you do not want to lose weight you want to lose fat. As already mentioned muscle is more dense so it is possible to be heavier after a preiod of weight training but less fat. If you are a Gym member try getting a body composition test every couple of months you should be able to guage progress this way.

Forget  the scales,go by your clothes!
Hi, my sister had the same problem and her Dr explained to her that she was inded loosing weight but adding it on as muscel(sp?) so while you can see and feel lighter, it was now muscel....hope this helps..
As Fina says, lose the scales. What do they tell you anyway? The whole idea is to look better, not weigh less.
