I have a dry socket and have been taking Paracetamol AND Ibuprofen. After taking some advice, I changed to Paracetamol with Codeine (all in one tablet).

I took one of these at 8pm (hoping one would be enough) and another at 8.45pm (when I realised it wasn't). Half an hour later, it's clear that I should've stuck with my original choice - I'm in agony!!! Does anyone know if I can take Ibuprofen also? I know I can't have anymore Paracetamol for four hours.

Thanks

Are you taking antibiotics as well? When I had that problem they started to work within half an hour and after two more hours no pain - painkillers, no matter how strong, had no effect.
Yes, you can take ibuprofen at the same time as paracetamol and codeine.
Most folk try to take them alternately 2 hour apart.
Be careful with the paracetamol, that's the dangerous one.

I really feel for you. I had this once ages ago and it is excruciating.
You might try some clove oil as well if you've got some....or suck a clove if you haven't
Have also heard people recommend holding a strepsil against the gum , if you can bear it.
yes you can take some ibuprofen on top of what you have already taken
Sqad, our resident quack, usually suggests 600mg ibuprofen which is more than the packet says, but at the time I would certainly have taken that amount.

Thanks all..............I'm off to find my Ibuprofen now. I have some clove oil and have been mixing with a little olive oil but I seem to have made things worse! Am on Antibiotics too Mike - Metronidazole.

Absolute flippin agony and i've made it bleed a little again too......through brushing my other teeth - three days post extraction. Not doing very well am I? Today's jusy awful.

Thanks again all..............the Codeine hasn't touched me!
My dentist said at the time...'you may have to take a paracetamol'
When I next saw him, I only just managed to stop myself from kicking him in a bad place and suggesting the same thing to him.

Over the past 6months or so, there has been quite a "hoo!hah!over my suggestion of 600mgms of Ibuprofen. This is quite a normal dose and I don´t know about the UK, but in Spain there are tablets made...600mgms.
Over the counter in UK only 200mg and 400mg.
mike....OK thanks.....I will adjust my replies accordingly.
I prefer your original dose, sqad. :-))
