sounds like hallucinations, a common side affect, have a read of the enclosed leaflet. Talk to the gp if its upsetting you, you dont want to make yourself worse by taking them.
I was given Amitrip to help combat my insomnia, and always found myself depressed - quite badly so - the following day. I think it is mind-altering Sugar and should be banned. But that's just my opinion. There are a vast array of similar medications that don't cause those sort of side effects, so I am at a complete loss to understand why GPs still prescribe the infernal stuff.

they gave it me as i was suffering from migraines from my anxietey and also for my IBS which i get due to anxiety and stress and im only 18! it says on one website i have found that strange dreams are a 'less serious side effect' so dont want to kick up a fuss over nothing just wondered if it was common as i never used to remmeber my dreams only if they were bad.
i suffer from migraines and ibs, my doctor wont give it to me, as it can make depression worse, and i was also depressed. Seriously go and see you gp and have him/her give you somthing else. good luck

If you decide not to take it, do do it under doctor's supervision. You've only had it a couple of weeks but you shouldn't take it long term. Do go back to the GP if you are worried about it, fretting and worrying about it will only make yourself feel worse. It seems to affect people differently.
Amitriptyline is one of the safest and oldest of the anti-depressant drugs, being on the market for at least 50years.
it takes up to 4-5 weeks to work and is normally well tolerated.
It is indicated for certain people with IBS and anxiety/depressive conditions.
Dreams are a well recognized side effect.
Dose? From your post I cannot tell what strength you are taking during the day.
Also, whether or not your migraine and IBS have improved.

It is much too early (2.5 weeks) to assess the effects or otherwise of your medication.
10mg from her post Sqad.

I grudgingly went back on this (bad experience back when I was younger when put on a zombie dose when I wasn't coping well after something) after it kept being recommended to me by, initially, my meniere's specialist then later my rhumatologist and gastro specialist for chronic pain relief.

I was assured the dosage is very different, only 10mg initially.

I have to say, it does help with that and I slept a lot better and as an aside it really cleared up my migraines and restless legs at night.

I had one incident when my GP apparantly pressed the wrong button and prescribed me 50mg which wasn't picked up on until I ended up back in the surgery a complete mess.

I went back on 10mg then they put it up to 25mg and it really did some unpleasant things to me so I came off them and haven't been back on them since.

I have been more headachey again and the restless legs are back with a vengeance so am considering going back on the 10mg a day and seeing how it goes.

I have always had very vivid dreams so couldn't say if it made a difference to those but the trade off to the much improved sleep was feeling a lot sleepier in general, something I've noticed a lot more since I stopped them.

I do feel that it makes me very on edge though and a bit paranoid etc... so if I do go back on it I would be very very careful with the dose. The way I see it, if there are other ways of helping then my sanity is more important.

People react differently to different drugs though so give them a go and keep an open and honest communication with your GP and see how it goes.
jenna...her post say 10mgms at night, but no mention of the daytime dose.
Last year my wife was put on 20mg a night,on the 5th night started terrible hallucinations(stopped tablets) and taken into hospital 2 days later.Took 4 days before they gradually started to dissapear .Amitriptilene never again.
Ahh gotcha sqad, I assumed she was just taking 10mg a day as a night time dose like I was doing. I shall go back to my corner ;)
