Have too much weight on me and whilst I suffer from fibromyalgia and other ailments but dont think they should excuse me working off some weight in the gym.

Can anybody out there persuade me to get the motivation to go to the gym even twice a week. When I get there I do enjoy it - it is getting me there.

The other thing I was working with a colleague whom I only see on a 2 monthly basis. This colleague is a very large lady but when I saw her recently I could not get over she has put on more weight - to me dangerous weight - and I said to myself whilst I am nowhere her weight I gotta get mine off., The gym works for me. Love to lose about 3 stone when I would be really happy about myself and have confidence. Any motivators. Thanks

You could get people to sponsor you for a charity per kilogram or something.
I agree that getting motivated to do some things can be difficult, but I've discovered that by getting into the gear really helps. Just putting on a pair of sneakers or other sport shoes gets you into the right frame of mind. Instead of leaving from home to go to the gym, pop in on your way home as sometimes we just can't be bothered to leave the comfort of home. Sometimes a routine can be good such as everyday before showering go for a walk / run it'll be automatic after a couple of weeks also walking to places you go to all adds up. Good luck! The only way to really lose weight and feel good is keeping on the move...
Grit your teeth and just do it,... Seriously. I have to do the same next week and once I'm there, like you, I'm fine but I've been useless the last couple of weeks and tomorrow I'm just going to have to finish, go and reluctantly do my class and keep doing that for the rest the week until the endophines kick in and my old mind set returns... It's less about motivation and more a kick up the elbow that works for me... I know I have to do it but it doesn't mean I have to do it with a good grace damnit! ;0)
Why the gym? Try something else instead.
set yourself a small target, say 4 lbs in the first instance, which is attainable - this is how I am doing it and I am slowly-slowing losing and keeping off weight which has been with me for over 10 years. I am just short of losing my first stone which is a small target, but I am doing it myself - mostly by cutting right down on bread (yum) and chocolate (yum) and walking more... I can't abide the gym but I have started occasional swimming and should do more!
sorry not sure how to motivate you but just wanted to say good luck and you are doing the right thing. I go to the gym regularly but have not always been like that - used to come up with all sorts of excuses but now I am in the 'habit' I really go without thought. I think when you start seeing some pounds come off that will be the motivation in itself. Not sure where you are and how your weather has been but although its freezing where I am it has been lovely bright days - perfect for getting out walking. Dump the car a bit or get off the bus a stop early - all these little things help. Don't weigh yourself too often either. All others have given good advice too x

thanks everybody for your advice - I think it is a bit of "grit my teeth" - I am medically retired now - and I could get to the gym I could say to myself well at least I have done something today. I do have a wee dog and walk him but I myself believe in the gym. When I went years ago I lost a lot of weight that people who I did not know in the gym were complimenting me. So here goesssssssssssssssssssss - bye
Have fun and good luck... Just keep it up and the mind set will come back... I'm counting on it! ;0)
Get yourself a gym buddy/training partner, this will give you the incentive to go as you won't want to let them down.
Also you can encourage each other and even compete with each other to spur yourselves on.
